Description: This is the first Annual Native American Visiting Artists Series at the Old Las Vegas Fort. The Friends of the Fort will be hosting Native American Artists in a four-month series, with the first being on Saturday, May 3, 2014. We will showcase artist from various Southwest Tribes. Our guest on May 3rd, is Shirley Nelson from Tuba City, AZ, the heart of the Navajo Nation. Shirley will demonstrate and share her traditional beadwork techniques, along with the craft of Heishi and Cedar Berry necklaces and bracelets. She will demonstrate how dreamcatchers are made with a small loom and hide. Shirley will appear in traditional clothing and also give the audience Navajo language lessons for basic words, and share stories about the Navajo culture.
